On Wednesday, our state was hit with horrible storms sparked by the remnants of hurricane Ida. Our hearts go out to those who lost their lives and to the people suffering from the devastation of flooding and multiple tornadoes. It has been a punishing past few years. We still have residents who have not recovered from Sandy. This past July was the warmest and wettest on record across much of the country. Sadly this is our new normal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
We have reached a climate tipping point that will take a herculean effort to recover from.\u00a0 A recent Rutgers study predicts another 11 inch sea level rise in South Jersey by 2050 with 83% confidence. The future victims of this devastation deserve leadership who are willing to do whatever it takes NOW to prevent the worst of the damage, and who will provide all the resources needed for recovery.<\/strong><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Phil Murphy\u2019s grand plan is to get off fossil fuels by 2050, and Jack Cittarelli has repeatedly voted against rejoining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. They are not willing to address the realities of the crisis we are in. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) most recent report declared that we must act NOW, in all sectors, to avert the worst, not 2030, not 2035 and certainly not 2050. No more fossil fuel pipelines or power plants starting immediately. We have no time to wait!\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Seas will rise. Storms will become worse and more frequent. Heatwaves will parch our farmland. What will it take for these politicians to say \u201cenough is enough\u201d? The Hoffman \/\u00a0 Warburton campaign are the only ones in the gubernatorial race talking about the very real catastrophe we are facing. Seas and storms don’t care about pragmatism or compromise or even partisanship. All that matters is action. We are the candidates who commit to taking bold action to protect our residents and our planet.<\/strong><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
