· Future Campaign goals and projections
Planning for GPNJ's 18th Annual Convention in 2014
There will also be a screening of the film 100 Signatures made by New Jersey filmmaker, Dean Greco. This documentary examines the obstacles 3rd party and independent candidates face in a humorous and inspiring manner. The film will be screened during a break for lunch.
100 Signatures was premiered on November 3 in Flemington, NJ, and afterward will be entered into several film festivals. If it gets a good reception at the festivals it will then be in movie theaters. It has already been accepted by the Downbeach Film Festival in Atlantic City.
Dean Greco ran as an independent for Congress in New Jersey in 2008. He received 3,259 votes, which was not bad given that the contest in which he ran, in the 7th District, was considered one of the closest races in the nation that year.
Greco has extensive training in both film-making and comedy, and his wife is an experienced TV news producer. Together they have created a funny and engaging film about what it is like to be an independent candidate for Congress. We see Greco petitioning, attempting to raise campaign funds, campaigning by going door-to-door, and also we see him interviewing elected officials and political commentators who have written about the election process. The film covers U.S. ballot access laws. The title reflects the fact that in New Jersey independent candidates for U.S. House need 100 signatures to get on the ballot.
This meeting is aiming to create a dialogue about the future direction of the party. If you have any topics that you feel should be discussed, please do not hesitate to give feedback. Please send the group an email with any agenda items that you would like to be added by November 23. A formal agenda will be sent out by November 23 for approval. The finalized agenda will be circulated prior to the meeting.
If you would like to present a proposal of your ideas for the future of the Green Party, please create a written draft of your proposal and email it to the group by December 5. Be sure to notify the group that you want your proposal added to the agenda. This will allow all members time to review the proposals prior to the meeting, which will hopefully enhance our discussion at the meeting. Your participation and feedback at this meeting is strongly encouraged. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on December 7 and hearing everyone’s ideas!
