Property Tax Reform

Our June 9, 2004 meeting featured a guest speaker, Bill Brown of the Bergen County Partnership for Tax Reform. He spoke about the proposed "SMART" ("Save Money and Reform Taxes) bill in the state assembly (A-572). This bill, championed by The New Jersey Coalition for Property Tax Reform, would shift most school funding to state income taxes.  There was a lively discussion afterward.
Several members and candidates, both present and past, are interested in continuing the discussion about this plan at future meetings. We encourage Bergen Greens to visit the following web site for more information: http://www.reformschooltaxes.com

BCGP Participates in Earth Festival

Four members of the BCGP - Henry and Mary Shoiket, Stewart Kautsch, and Richard Foster - staffed the BCGP table at the "Celebration of the Earth Festival 2004" on May 2nd, 2004 at Van Saun Park in Paramus. Keeping with past practice, we focused on children's "stuff" such as tatoos and activity books. However, with the number of adults attending probably equal to children, we feel that we should add more environmentalist literature next year.
