MICHAEL SPECTOR Offered Voters an Alternative in the 26th District (received 1,095 votes)
Seeking a referendum
on what they see as Governor Christie’s increasingly autocratic rule, the Green
Party of New Jersey challenged Republican hegemony in the realigned 26th
Legislative District by running Michael Spector of Mt.
“We offered the people of New Jersey real change, demanding that the legislature enact a Medicare health initiative for all and a public jobs program, putting the unemployed to work,” said Spector.
“Most voters are familiar with state government only when they have autos registered or inspected, and at tax time. The present incumbents don’t even bother contacting their constituents or eliciting opinions, except during election campaigns. Elected Greens would regularly inform residents of the issues, requesting their input.”
His platform called for restoring the millionaires tax on the wealthy, supporting public education, increased utilization of renewable energy resources and public transportation, restoring environmental regulations, full marriage rights for gays, and reducing property tax by separating it from education expenses, to be paid through a separate progressive tax.
“Endless foreign wars have already cost New Jersey taxpayers over $55 billion, money that can be used for reimbursing land owners affected by the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, preventing layoffs of teachers, repairing our infrastructure, restoring full Medicaid benefits for the needy and creating affordable housing,” he said.
