Issues

Property Taxes | Health Care | Government Ethics | Education | Environment | Equality | Eminent Domain Abuse
Election Reform | Energy Efficiency | Economic & Social Justice | End the War in Iraq

Property Taxes:

When Joe Roberts was sworn in as Assembly Speaker in January of 2006, he promised real property tax reform. But what did we get? A regressive Sales Tax increase and another rebate band-aid.

The Green Party calls for a progressive  Income Tax, raising the rates on those incomes over $250,000 and dedicating that revenue to education. We all know that the school budget is at least 50 percent of our Property Tax, and it needs to be funded in a new way.

Also,  those who have lived in their homes for 30 or 40 years have  done their time  and should not be forced out of their homes by Property Tax increases.  For those on a limited income, the tax should be either eliminated or put off until such time as the home is sold due to relocation or death.

Health Care:

The Republicans idea is to leave everything as it is. The Democrats idea is to ensure health insurance for all by making it MANDATORY for all New Jerseyans to purchase health insurance from a private, for profit, company  just like car insurance! We all know how great that system is.

This will not fix the health care system, it will only force you to pay the insurance companies that profit from your illness.

The Green Party calls for a universal, single-payer medical system.

Government Ethics:

When our State Senator, Wayne Bryant, was indicted on corruption charges, what did Joe Roberts say? Roberts still hasn’t called for Bryant to resign. What was Bryant doing? Taking taxpayers’ money for no-show jobs that padded his pension.

Why should so-called  public servants get better pensions and health care than the majority of those they serve? They should not!

Education:

Fully and equally fund all N.J. public education districts through a progressive state income tax and military budget cuts, not through property taxes. Build badly-needed inner-city and rural schools.

Environment:

Repeal the Fast Track legislation that allows developers to rush projects without proper environmental and neighborhood impact studies. Green Space planning to prevent urban sprawl. Accept Petty’s Island as a state wildlife preserve. Protect our drinking water.

Equality:

Greens support strong legal action against any type of racist, sexist, anti-Semitic or homophobic activity.

Full equality for women including equal pay for comparable work and unrestricted abortion rights. Full spousal and custody rights for gay and lesbians couples – including the right to be married.

Eminent Domain Abuse:

Greens strongly oppose the use of eminent domain by private developers and elected officials to force out neighborhood homeowners, tenants and businesses who have been in the community for years.

Election Reform:

Greens support 100% publicly financed elections, free air-time to all candidates, independent monitoring of elections and instant run-off voting. End all forms of “pay to play.”

Energy Efficiency:

Make New Jersey a model for solar and wind energy development. Increase funding for mass transit systems to cut down on pollution. Convert all public vehicles to bio-diesel. Close all nuclear plants in the state.

Economic & Social Justice:

Greens support living wage legislation, the right to organize in a union, prevailing wage enforcement and affirmative action. Protect public workers pensions while monitoring pension tacking or boosting.

End the War in Iraq:

The war was/is really  about  oil, and not about terrorism or WMDs. Let the Iraqi people negotiate with the UN for peacekeepers and then bring all U.S. troops home.
