The Green Party of New Jersey
Updated May 08, 2008
2005 Election Results

Also see our Campaign Page.

[Webmaster note: I do not yet have all of the results, and the ones that I have are preliminary. This page will be updated as I get more information.]

Matt Thieke, Governor
10,817, or about .5%.
This result was from the next day, but we hear the total is already over 11,000. This would be our best result yet in a gubernatorial campaign. Over 2,000 of this is in Monmouth County. Two other remarkable results are the 885 votes in Middlesex and 825 in Gloucester.

Assembly District 5
Richard Giovanoni 3347
Mark Heacock 3302
Together they got about 10.8% of the vote. An important highlight is that both Green candidates finished well ahead of the Libertarian, who received 1100 votes. Another is the synergy between this campaign and the gubernatorial, since half of this district is in Gloucester County.

Assembly District 12
Ann Napolitano, 2303
Judith Stanton, 2044
Altogether about 3.4%. This is very solid, since the race between the two old parties was neck-and-neck. As I write this, it is still not entirely certain that both GOP incumbents held on to their seats. The spread among the four old party candidates was about 3%!

Assembly District 13
Mike Hall, 2049
Greg Orr, 1890
Together, about 3.5% in another tight race involving both old parties. The Monmouth Greens continue to elbow their way into the political arena (see the remarkable result in the Freeholder race later on this page).

Assembly District 36
Stewart Kautsch, 967
About 1.2% for this lone candidate in what is usually a close district. Stewart was our first Assembly candidate in this district; we hope the pioneering effort will pay future dividends. Historically, independents get about 400 votes here, so the GP has already made a dent.

Bergen County Freeholder
Irwin Nack, about 3500 votes.
More details later.

Rutherford Borough Council (Bergen County)
Gary Novosielski, 373
Natalie Kochmar, 274
Together about 6.0% of the vote. This is a tight race every year with both old parties (Dems 49%, GOP 45%) and the Greens are driving those parties batty. Let's keep it up! (Note: Earlier in the year, Gary won re-election to the Board of Education.)

Gloucester County Freeholder
Chuck Woodrow, 2549
1.2% of the vote. This was a 3-seat race, so Chuck was mentioned on well over 3% of the ballots cast. Again, note the synergy between this and the total in Gloucester County for Matt Thieke (825 votes) and the Assembly candidates from District 5 (see above). There are New Jerseyans who are voting a straight ticket when they get the opportunity.

Monmouth County Freeholder
Brian Unger, over 18,000 votes
Details soon . This is the race that drove the Monmouth Greens into everyone's headlights. Over 5% of the vote, meaning that at least 10% of the voters in this race gave Brian one of their votes. Monmouth County is not just corrupt - it is a prime victim of sprawl in this state and eminent domain abuse. Hopefully the Green Party has arrived in time to give the citizens the defense that they deserve.

Mayor of Parsippany (Morris County)
Michael Spector
Michael got 199 votes (1.35%) in a four-way race in which the winner was decided by 48 votes. Parsippany's first Green candidate made a splash.
